Fundamentals of a Green Building
The fundamentals of green buildings include managing air flow, best practices in storm water management, rainwater harvesting, using alternative energy such as wind and solar power, using low toxicity sealants, paints and other chemicals, or even having a kitchen recycle center in a home.
Good construction designs, ventilation and insulation systems that allow dynamic ventilation, cooling and heating to optimize energy flow are a must in green buildings. Choosing and using the right construction materials that make for comfortable and clean buildings are at the core of the green concept. The EPA Guiding Principles for Federal Leadership in High Performance and Sustainable Buildings provides a good framework for green buildings.
Benefits of a Green Home
With the rising costs of energy, it makes sense to go for green buildings that look at efficient insulation and energy conservation, resulting in long term savings for both owners and the environment. It is a known fact that green homes can end up being 30-50% more energy efficient than conventionally built homes. Imagine the savings in energy bills alone!
While people building new homes may argue that green homes cost more, on applying the project life cycle for analyzing the cost of a green home you will realize that the overall cost of the project in its entire life cycle actually saves you much more by way of operating costs over the years.

Dust mites are a common problem, but for many people they can cause large problems. These microscopically small bugs live in nearly every home and feed on old skin cells shed by humans and pets. Dust mites are not usually harmful to humans - they don’t bite or suck blood - their feces and dead remains are so small that they can be inhaled as dust and in some cases cause allergies. An allergist can find out if you have an allergy to dust mites.
If someone in your home is allergic to dust mites, you will have to take measures to reduce the mite population and in so doing eliminate the source of the allergic reaction. The best place to start is by making the conditions less hospitable to the mites.
Start by reducing the humidity in your home; when the humidity level is less than 50 percent in your home, you will experience a greatly reduced dust mite population.
Having a clean house is also important. Invest in professional upholstery cleaning and carpet cleaning, especially when there are pets in the house. Vacuum your drapery, floors, and upholstery regularly.
Change the bedding on all beds at least once a week and wash it in hot water to kill existing mites. While your sheets are in the laundry, clean and vacuum your mattresses thoroughly. Dust mites love to live in our bedding, because we shed millions of skin cells in our beds so this step is especially important for improving the situation.

I have an interest in the development of the conservatory and my knowledge of Georgian Conservatories has just been expanded after finding an old gardening book published in 1823 that contains an interesting few pages about the use and technology in Georgian Conservatories of the time.
It was written by John Buonarotti Papworth, a noted designer and architect of the time who was a founder member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He designed everything from handkerchiefs to room interiors and buildings.
The book is splendidly and long-windedly titled: HINTS ON ORNAMENTAL GARDENING: Consisting of a series of designs for garden buildings, useful and decorative gates, fences, railings, &c. Accompanied by observations on the principles and theory of rural improvement, interspersed with occasional remarks on Rural Architecture.
This is what he has to say about conservatories:
"THE attention bestowed by gardeners of this country to plants introduced from every quarter of the globe has made it necessary to erect buildings for their preservation and culture; and to so great an extent has the means been carried by the scientific, to create and govern artificial temperature, that many exotic plants and fruits have arrived at a perfection with us, rarely known to the country whence they were obtained."

Car garages have become the multi-functional room that any individual could have the most use for in his/her household. They are turned into a working room, a gym room, or even a children’s playroom. However, even with the fact that the garage is frequently used for these multi-activities, it is often taken for granted by the family. And since it is not the place that is frequented by guests and visitors, there is more reason to ignore the need to have proper garage storage organization to keep it maintained and clutter-free.
So, it is not inevitable that one day you will find the garage room simply a house of clutters, garbage, and chaos. These would not have been part of the scenario if you have applied some organization solutions in the early days. But since, there is no turning back, don’t think there is no hope for you. Clean and organize your garage storage - that would give you the best start. If you will be patient with this new project to fix the problem, finding that place as the most efficient garage storage organization is not a hard thing to achieve.
Garage storage organization takes time, so you need to have plenty of time with you. On the other hand, it would not be that case if you know how where to start. If you can ask some help from your co-household members, it would be a great way to make things easier and faster for you. When you need more space and are on a limited budget, you should look at the possibilities garage conversions to living space hold for your purposes. Perhaps the most major work involved is removing the garage door and filling in the wall so that it’s attached almost seamlessly to the rest of the house.

According to the US Fire Administration, residential fires claim 4,000 American lives each year, one of the primary causes of which is electrical problems within households. Most incidents either stem out of the misuse of electrical appliances or opting for the do-it-yourself process with regard to electrical wiring installations instead of trusting electrical companies to do the job.
Usual electrical problems are the unconscious or careless wrong handling of electrical household appliances and equipments. The use of extension cords as a permanent solution is not advisable as compared to having proper receptacles installed, as these things usually heat up.
