When you enter a house most people don’t think about the different kinds of wood doors it contains. Today different there are thousands of different doors manufactured and they are generally classified into two types: interior wood doors and exterior wood doors.
What makes interior wooden doors different from exterior wooden doors. Interior wood doors are fabricated differently than exterior wood doors. The construction is different and exterior doors have more emphasis put into weathering the elements, therefore they are much heavier than interior wood doors. Functionality of a wood door also determines how it appears and how it is manufactured. If say, the door is a security door, then it will be solid, and strong, this will be a very heavy door. If the door is built to allow light in then it will also contain glass, as in a sliding door, or a French door. If ventilation is needed in the area then the door will probably have louvers. Of course, if a wood door is to be used only to separate rooms then the builder or owner may decide to install hollow core wood doors. Exterior doors are used as sliding door, patio doors, wood back doors, French doors and entry wood doors. Interior doors comprise; sliding wooden doors, bi-fold doors, multi fold doors, hinged doors, bypass sliding glass doors, and pocket doors.

Small diesel generators have become an essential household item for many families throughout the United States. In areas prone to hurricane, tornadoes and severe winters, small diesel generators provide life saving aid. One only has to live through a power outage lasting several days in below freezing conditions to realize how difficult life would have been without one of these superb little machines.
Small diesel generators have always had wide acceptance within industrial, rural or building applications. However, with the advance in diesel technology and the small engine over the past few years, diesel is fast becoming the preferred option for household generator owners. These small compact units are not only safer to operate, but they are now much quieter and last much longer than their petrol counterparts.
The reality of small diesel generators being incredibly noisy and smelly is now fast disappearing. One only has to look at sales figures of these engines to the domestic market over the past couple of years to realise how quickly this has happened. More and more home stand-by generators are now diesel powered.
Suburbia, particularly in those areas that are prone to power outages through one reason or other has become inundated with diesel generators of latter years. This has historically been the domain of the small petrol generator which was relatively lightweight and easy for the home handyman to operate. In the wrong hands though, the toxic emissions from these types of generator have proven to be deadly. Safety for many people is reason enough to change to the small diesel generators. The exhaust fumes are not nearly as toxic as those that are emitted from gasoline engines. The fact that they require less maintenance is also another main reason for the change. No ignition system, carburettor or spark plugs means that there is far less that can go wrong.

You may be wondering why granite is such a popular material for countertops. First and foremost, looks! With its rich polished surface, granite appeals to every décor style from elegant or modern to traditional or country. Granite comes in some amazing colors, and is considered to be one of the most beautiful stones in the world. Installing granite countertops is not only timeless, its durable and virtually maintenance free, economical, and eco-friendly.
The best place to begin in understanding why people choose granite countertops in their home is to understand what granite is. Granite is a natural stone and comes from the Italian word "granito", meaning grained. It is an igneous rock, essentially molten magma, which is cooled and then hardened below the earth’s surface. Granite contains crystallized minerals such as feldspar, quartz and mica. The colors and patterns of granite are determined by these minerals, their varying concentrations, temperature, pressure and the rate at which the rocks cool down on their ascent to the earth’s surface. It is this range of colors and patterns that make granite such an appealing and unique material to use for countertops.
Let’s move on to durability. As you are probably aware, diamonds are the hardest material. Granite is the second. Ask any stone fabricator what they use to fabricate granite in their shops and their answer will be consistent-diamond blades! It is for this reason that granite is a highly durable material. It is recommended that you do not use knives on granite, not out of concern for scratching the granite, but because the hardness of the granite will dull the blades. In addition, you can set hot pots on your granite tops without any concern. Anything short of a blowtorch will not affect your countertop. Granite is one of the most heat resistant materials you can use. It is commonly used as building material for high-rises due to its ability to withstand gale force winds and rain. Needless to say, its durable.

Stock home plans:
Stock home plans are, by contrast, home plans which have been developed to fit the needs of a particular group of the general population. They are not "custom-designed" for a particular person, but rather, standardized for the needs of a larger group.
Stock home plans normally include the "most requested" house plan features including square footage, room dimensions, floor plan layout, amenities, and other similar features. These home plans provide an excellent value when compared to the corresponding price of a set of fully custom-designed home plans which may well exceed several thousand dollars.
When you buy a Stock house plan, you’re not paying for the countless hours spent drawing up a house plan, re-working the house plan, and finalizing drafts. You’re paying a reduced fee for a single license of that plan.
Advantages of Stock home plans:
- In most cases, are significantly less expensive
- Minor plan modifications can usually be made by the original designer or a local building design professional for a reasonable charge.
- Very simple and quick purchase process
- Can order the plans and be able to submit the home plans for a building permit the next day
Disadvantages of Stock home plans:

When a person begins the process of building a new house, there are many different aspects that need to be addressed including: where to build, what size house to build, what features to include, what items are the most important to have in the house, what costs should be included in the budget, what are the design/build timeframes, who will build the house, and a variety of other issues.
After these initial questions have been successfully answered, the next item that must be addressed is that of floor plans. There are two basic types of floor plans that can be purchased, "custom" or pre-drawn, with each having distinct advantages and disadvantages.
Custom floor plans:
Custom floor plans are just as the name implies. The floor plans are custom drawn to meet your specific needs. The plans are normally drawn by a local architectural design professional in a geographic location close to where the 1.) owners live, or 2.) house will be built. The process is, normally, much more involved and time-consuming since the owner’s specific requirements will need to be integrated into the overall design of the house. Many times these type "special" requirements can present significant challenges to the designer of the house, which as a result, may take additional time to resolve.

Always wanted a hardwood floor in your home? You might actually have one, hidden underneath a carpet or a layer of paint. If you do, you might want to consider refinishing it. Stripping paint from hardwood floors might sound intimidating, but it’s not as hard as it sounds - you can easily strip and refinish your floor on your own, with affordable and simple equipment available from your local hardware store.
When stripping paint from hardwood floors, you have two options to choose from: using a chemical paint stripper or using a mechanical sander. Sanding is usually a better option than using a chemical paint stripper - it’s cheaper, faster, generally healthier and produces better results.
Before you begin, find out what kind of paint you need to remove. If it is lead-based, do not use a sander - the paint dust will spread throughout the house and can cause health problems, especially with children. Even if they are not in the house during the actual stripping, the dust lingers for a long time afterwards. Always take care to eliminate health risks when stripping paint.
First, clear the floor of furniture and carpeting. Pull out any nails, staples or tacks. If the nails are too hard to pull out, hammer them all the way in. Remove any wood trim around the walls. If there is putty on the floor (especially if you’ve just removed a layer of carpeting), scrape it off. Sweep the floor as well as you can before getting started.

Recessed lights are usually used by architects and interior designers in rooms where the residents aim for a relaxed and soothing lighting effect. Recessed lighting is considered preferable to the use of multiple standing and side table lamps based on the mood they can induce in the occupant of the room. You will discover why interior designers are using recessed lighting when you enter a room that has recessed lights in them – to see is to believe, as they say.
The experts may recommend that you have recessed lights installed in your hallways and/or kitchen, to get the best use out of this form of lighting. Recessed lights are installed in the form of canister lights that will fit the holes in the ceiling they were fitted for. You will probably need an experienced electrician to guide the installation team in the installation of your recessed lighting, so that the finished work results with the recessed lights being set flush with the ceiling structure without compromising safety.
In the US, recessed lights may be known by other names, namely "can lights" or perhaps as "high hats", while in Canada recessed lights are dubbed "pot lights" instead.
Replacing old light fixtures with new can lights requires thorough computation of the total energy that will be used by the can lights everyday compared to the energy consumption of the old light fixtures. One problem with many structures is over-illumination that results in soaring electricity bills (with the problem made worse when can lights are installed in areas that not many people see anyway, and so cannot be appreciated.) Thus it is important the cost to install can lights and to maintain them, to be able to justify their usage.

Due to the improvements to price, ease of construction and quality, a home sauna is within reach of more and more people. Before starting you need to consider the following areas: space, material and design.
You don’t need to be a carpenter to build a sauna. All that is needed is a waterproof floor, a 220/240V electrical hookup for the heater and a shower nearby. Sauna’s can be built in master bathrooms, garages, and basements. Altering an outside structure by adding insulation, benches and a heat source is another place for a sauna or you can build a new building.
The traditional sauna is made mostly of cedar, because it stays cool and absorbs moisture as needed, however it should be clear of knots that will not seep sap and create problems. There are several options of heat sources including wood stoves, electric stoves and infrared. The electric stoves are the most popular stoves in the United States due to their ease of use. Wood stoves are best for outdoor saunas because they need ventilation. If you can’t take the heat you might want to try the infrared sauna. The infrared sauna uses infrared radiation to heat the skin instead of the air. You want to make sure you get the size heater that will fit your sauna. A larger heater will cover more surface area, resulting in lower surface temperature. You also want your sauna to be well ventilated. One vent needs to be behind the heater and another one in an opposite wall under a bench.
